It helps autism, epilepsy, and chronic pain. It is the most desired product these days – cosmetics manufactures insert the CBD compound in their products, restaurants and coffee shops embrace it and Coca-Cola might make a new CBD drink. So, what is so special with the CBD?

The cannabis plant contains two compounds: THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (Cannabidiol). While the THC is the main compound in the cannabis plant and accounted for the euphoric feeling, the CBD has great benefits that increase the attraction to the cannabis plant. The CBD has no intention to overcome the THC, the same compound that creates the highness or calmness feeling and in recent years, the positive consensus around the CBD and its qualities is growing.

According to different researches, the CBD has been found effective in autism treatment, chronic pain, Epilepsia, stress, high blood pressure and different types of infection. Moreover, some claim that the RSO (Rick Simpson Oil), a homemade medicine that contains high amounts of CBD, can be used as a treatment for cancer and other diseases such as arthritis, asthma, depression, insomnia, and inflammation.

The discovery of the CBD is relatively new and with the increasing popularity of marijuana and the CBD, it becomes a trend for those who have a specific medical issue, for healthy people who wish to maintain their condition and… for famous people.

In 2018, the total sales of CBD products hit the $500 million and analysts estimate that by 2022, the total sales will reach $2 billion.

CBD, Cosmetics?

The CBD is booming in an unexpected industry – cosmetics. Gwyneth Paltrow, for example, is promoting CBD products in her Wellness website GOOP and the reason is obvious – the hemp seed oil is just good for the skin, helps with wrinkles, acne, and has unique qualities for the skin.

The CBD compound has positive effects on the skin due to its anti-inflammatory characteristics. This has created new cosmetics products containing the CBD, with Lord Jones, Chanukka, Vertly and Khus Khus currently provide the leading products.

The hemp oil can also cure some skin diseases, like psoriasis, due to its anti-inflammatory characteristic that can improve psoriasis patches.

Cannabis – Why now?

“The reason people get excited about CBD is that it doesn’t cause euphoria,” said Dr. David Bearman, a physician who has studied the effects of medical marijuana for decades. “People say it’s not psychoactive, which isn’t true — it is both an anti-anxiety drug and antidepressant.”

So why the CBD hype happens now? The cannabis qualities have been known since the ’60s, however, the mainstream (including politicians, one Ronald Reagan, and the media) has rejected the plant because of the THC psychoactive effects.

The CBD has a high concentration in the hemp oilseed and low concentration in the cannabis seed. With the hybridization of both types of seeds, it is possible to create a cannabis plant with a high concentration of CBD and a low concentration of THC.

Analysts predict that until the cannabis plant will be completely legalized, the CBD will be selling in Wellness and food products.

CBD – Is it legal?

The legality of CBD, both in the US and worldwide remains unclear. In a way, THC holds the legalization of CBD in many jurisdictions around the world. But the legalization trend grows – Canada, for example, had recently completely legalized marijuana.

CBD Legality in the US:

Currently, there are nine states where cannabis is completely legal, and 22 states where the use of cannabis is legal with a doctor’s prescription. There are 15 states that the use of cannabis is limited but the use of CBD oil is permitted. There are four states where the use of marijuana is completely forbidden.

CBD – Is it safe?

CBD barely contains THC so you cannot get high and will fail any drug test with these levels of THC. Yet, let’s be honest – it is still an unregulated product and has not been well studied. Some experts say it’s harmless, but the usage of CBD must be researched further by producers and users.

One conclusion that remains unclear is the effect of CBD on hormones. Another factor that can harm CBD safety is the fact that the product varies in quality, consistency, and strength which can cause different side-effects according to the different product.

How to invest in CBD?

Same as any other investment, you have several ways to invest in CBD companies. The first would be directly through the CBD companies. The second way is via the financial markets, investing in shares of cannabis companies through a broker that provides US shares trading. Another way to invest in cannabis stocks is through Plus500, a contract for difference (CFD’s) broker, although it’s a bit risky – it can match those with a low amount of money who wish to leverage their capital.

* Risk Warning: 80.5% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider. You should consider whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money

Bottom line

In some ways, the CBD remains in the psychoactive family but mainly it has anti-anxiety and antipsychotic effects. The CBD trend will drag on more researches and studies of the cannabis compound to the point of maximizing the qualities of the CBD. After all, this is perhaps the main reason for the increasing prices in the cannabis stocks prices, which implies the possible potential of cannabis companies and the whole industry. The potential of users of the cannabis plant as a medical treatment is probably much higher than the market size of those who smoke marijuana to get high, although the qualities of THC should not be forgotten.
